Teen girl hospitalized with serious injuries after Tumalo Rd. car crash

A 17-year-old girl is in the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash on Tumalo Road on Friday evening.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene at around 9 p.m. near Cline Falls Hwy.

They discovered that Redmond man Jose Alvarez Ibarra, 46, had been driving his 2007 Ford Expedition east on Tumalo Road as the teenage girl from Montague, California drove west in a Dodge Dart.

Their vehicles collided head-on as Ibarra crossed into the westbound lane.

Bend Fire & Rescue took the teen girl to St. Charles in Bend with serious injuries, while Ibarra was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Based on the evidence, Ibarra was arrested after he was released from St. Charles and booked at Deschutes County Jail on the following charges:

  • Assault II
  • Reckless Driving
  • DUII (alcohol)
  • Driving While Suspended Misdemeanor

The roadway was closed for around four hours while the investigation took place.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the community members who assisted on the scene as well as the Oregon State Police, Bend Fire and Rescue, and the Deschutes County Road Department.
