Mountain View Fellowship Church in Redmond looking to expand Safe Parking Program

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The Mountain View Fellowship Church in Redmond has developed a program that has been successful for almost a year. The Safe Parking Program allows two to four people to live in their vehicles behind the church, and provides case management for them. The goal is to help people find stable housing.

The program is currently operating at the church and the Veteran of Foreign Affairs Hall.

Mountain View Fellowship Church’s Pastor, Rick Russell, told NewsChannel 21 the program is looking to expand to other locations. He said there will be close to about 20 parking spots available around the community by the end of September.

One of the locations will be at northwest 19th St & northwest Pershall Way. It is about 30 acres of land that will continue to be a farm, along with two groups of three vehicles at the location.

“The city’s been asking what can they do to support the program and so we asked for locations–more locations we can operate the program,” Russell said.

The safe parking program provides safe places for people dealing with housing issues to park and sleep in their vehicles day and night.

Kelsey McGee is meeting with Pastor Rick Russell at the church to learn more about resident’s concerns. Her report will be on NewsChannel 21 at Five.
