
“Go Now” evacuations are being ordered for a new wildfire burning near Prineville.
The Dry Creek Fire has been renamed the Cowboy Fire. It was about 60 acres early Friday evening, according to Central Oregon Fire Information.
It’s burning grass and brush near Juniper Canyon south of Prineville. Structures are threatened.
Central Oregon Fire Information said Level 3 “Go Now” and Level 2 “Get Set” evacuations are being implemented for areas between Gravette Road and Riordan Road.
Crook County sheriff’s deputies were going door-to-door to get people out, but planned to update with more specific evacuation details on their Facebook page.
The fire is being attacked from the ground and air, including with helicopters and and two single-engine air tankers. A bulldozer is on scene working to establish a fireline.
The cause of the fire is not immediately known.
