Electrical wiring failure blamed for Redmond house fire

An electrical wiring failure in a crawlspace was the cause of an early morning house fire in northwest Redmond Tuesday, Redmond Fire and Rescue said. The fire caused an estimated $85,000 in damage.

Here are the details from Redmond Fire and Rescue:

At approximately 1 am this morning, Redmond fire & Rescue was alerted to a possible structure fire at 4115 NW Xavier Avenue.

First arriving units on scene were met by the occupants of the residence who advised that there was smoke coming from the crawl space. After an initial investigation fire crews observed light smoke coming from the foundation vents of the residence and determined there was a working fire within the crawlspace. Firefighters had to cut multiple holes in the floor of the residence to locate and extinguish the fire. There were no reported injuries, and no animals were harmed.

Fire investigators were on scene conducting interviews and investigating the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical wiring failure within the crawlspace.

Estimated fire loss is $85,000.

This is a good reminder to always have working smoke alarms in your home and a good escape plan. If you find your smoke alarm is going off while cooking, look into relocating the smoke alarm further from the kitchen. Never take your smoke alarm down for nuisance alarms.

Redmond Fire & Rescue was assisted by Cloverdale RFPD.
