September is National Suicide Awareness Month, dedicated to building awareness and preventing suicide deaths from suicide across the country

Suicide is among the leading causes of death for Oregonians. It’s the second leading cause among Oregonians between the ages of 10 and 24.

In Deschutes County, the Central Oregon Suicide Prevention Alliance and community partners are holding events to support survivors and teach the community about resources available.

Here are some of the events planned and resources available for those who need it.

Building Resiliency Thru Mindfulness

  • Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Downtown Bend Public Library, Brooks Room, 601 NW Wall Street, Bend

Candlelight Vigil

  • Thursday from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Bend-La Pine Schools Education Center Front Lawn, 520 NW Wall Street, Bend

Out of the Darkness Walk

  • Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Alpenglow Park, Bend

Community QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer)

  • Monday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m., Downtown Bend Public Library, Brooks Room
