Congratulations to Charles “Barry” Howarth. He won the Central Oregon Daily News giant pumpkin weight guessing contest, coming closest to the pin in guessing the weight of a giant pumpkin grown by Ed Pugh of Madras.
Barry’s guess was 1,375 pounds, 7 ounces. The official weight of Pugh’s pumpkin “Kisamore” was 1,381 pounds at the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta on Saturday.
Barry wins a bag full of Central Oregon Daily News swag, but he doesn’t plan on keeping any of the items. Noting his own blessings in life, he plans to wrap each item individually and make them Christmas presents for a family in need.

Thank you Barry! We are so happy you won and are able to be a small part of your efforts to pay it forward.
Barry tells us he’s a big Scott Elnes fan and enjoys watching Good Morning Central Oregon, which airs 5-7 a.m. every Monday – Friday on KOHD/ABC and KBNZ/CBS.
