Residents in northeast Bend are being warned of a black bear, possibly a cub, spotted roaming through a neighborhood Tuesday night.

The Bend Police Department said it happened in the area of NE 18th Street and Cooley Road between 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

A woman posted a security camera video of the bear on Facebook.

That’s near Lava Ridge Elementary School and Sky View Middle School. The sighting raises additional concern since Bend-La Pine Schools are back in session starting Wednesday.

“Several community members also flagged down officers to report sightings. Bend Police and the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife responded and found tracks, but did not locate the bear,” Bend police said in a statement.

Anyone who spots a bear in the area is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911. Do not approach the bear.

This is the second reported black bear sighting in Central Oregon this week. People reported seeing a black bear in the Powell Butte area.
