Redmond fire Aug. 31, 2022

Most Level 3 “Go Now” evacuations have been lifted Wednesday night following an estimated 10-acre grassland fire southwest of Redmond. An Oregon Department of Forestry official says forward progress has been stopped.

The fire started just before 3:00 p.m.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office issued the evacuations for people living in the area north of SW Obsidian Ave and south of Highway 126; West of SW Helmholtz and east of SW 58th St.

As of 6:08 p.m., the following addresses will remain at a Level 3: 4831 SW Obsidian Ave, 4723 SW Obsidian Ave, 4635 SW Obsidian Ave, 4584 SW Obsidian Ave, and 4574 SW Lava Ave.

All other areas will be reduced to Level 1 “Get Ready.”

At least one barn and a chicken coop appear to be a total loss.

Fire personnel from Redmond, Bend, Cloverdale, Sisters, Crooked River, Sunriver and Alfalfa have been called to the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
