A Bend teacher is recognized for helping create an inclusive setting for students.
Bear Creek Elementary teacher Brayan Gonzalez was one of this year’s winners of the Oregon Safe Schools Award for his work in helping LGBTQ+ students in and out of the classroom.
That includes helping put QR codes for students to report incidents in schools and setting up school events focused on inclusivity.
“We are here and we are invested. And in making this our home and part of creating a community where everybody belongs is by doing the work,” said Gonzalez.
