▶️ Redmond School District closed Monday after winter storm

Most school districts in Central Oregon closed schools and activities Monday due to the lingering effects of Sunday’s winter storm that dumped several inches of new snow. But for the biggest district on the High Desert, it was business as usual.

The Redmond, Jefferson County, Crook County and Culver school districts all closed for the day.

While most of them made that call Sunday night, Crook County initially called for a two-hour delay. But when the sun rose Monday, the district changed that to a full cancellation.

“Too many sideroads haven’t been plowed, making it difficult for buses to reach students on time,” Crook County School District’s Communications Director Jason Carr said in an email. “Safety is a top priority, so canceling school today will give our local road crews time to clear the streets.”

Bend-La Pine School District posted Monday morning that it was going to be open as usual.

Thank you to the dedicated road crews around the region for working hard to clear our roadways! The teams from ODOT, La Pine, Sunriver, Bend and Deschutes County have been busy working around the clock clearing snow…,” the district said on Facebook.

Central Oregon Community College also canceled all classes and events and said campuses would be closed. All services and departments will be unavailable for the day.
